A Place of
Worship & Community

"We are a caring, committed congregation of believers in Jesus Christ — warmly welcoming all people to our sacred place of worship in the beautiful Finger Lakes."

Saint James' Episcopal Church is one of the oldest congregations in the Finger Lakes, tracing its roots to 1830. Located at the corner of Decatur and Sixth Streets in Watkins Glen, we are a member parish of the Diocese of Rochester.

We worship in the Anglican tradition, guided by the Book of Common Prayer. We openly welcome visitors — whether tourists enjoying the stunning Seneca Lake area or prospective new members looking for a spiritual home.

After some of our Sunday services, we invite all to join us for coffee and conversation in the adjoining Mann Parish House.

Called to Worship,
Ministry & Outreach

"To profess the Good News of Jesus Christ through worship, effective ministry and outreach so that others may know God's redeeming love."

Worship

Centered on the Book of Common Prayer, our worship draws on ancient forms of prayer — from the Daily Offices of Morning and Evening Prayer to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

🤝

Ministry

Through pastoral care and sermon, we maintain a vibrant presence in the community — listening, counseling, praying, and administering the sacraments to all.

Outreach

We believe in caring for our neighbors in Schuyler County and the wider world — living out the Gospel through acts of compassion and generosity.

Nearly Two Centuries
of Faith

Saint James' was organized in 1830 as the Erie Canal opened the Finger Lakes to the wider world. Our sanctuary — the town's first brick church — was built in 1863 at the corner of Decatur and Fifth Streets.

Our early leaders had ties to the Schuyler family of the American Revolution. Today we continue to serve the thriving community of Watkins Glen, home to the spectacular state park gorge, Seneca Lake, and a world-renowned wine country.
